Sydney Sweeney has been brutally mocked by the satirical news site The Onion, just days after she refused to address the rhetoric used in her divisive American Eagle ad campaign.

Euphoria actress Sweeney, 28, has been at the center of a media storm in recent months.

In July, she was accused of promoting white supremacy after she starred in a controversial American Eagle campaign which poked fun at her ‘good genes.’

Earlier this month, the star finally spoke out about the advert… but pointedly failed to speak on the language used or denounce racism.

Speaking to GQ, she said: ‘When I have an issue that I want to speak about, people will hear.

‘I know at the end of the day what that ad was for, and it was great jeansso it didn’t affect me one way or the other.’

Over the weekend, The Onion, an outlet that publishes joke articles on international, national and local news, shared a fake interview with the star.

While The Onion didn’t actually speak with the star and made up her answers as an attempt to poke fun at her, it has now gone viral on social media.

The publication took aim at her failure to speak out against white supremacy, her relationship with divisive record executive Scooter Braun and her alleged MAGA political leanings.

In response to a question about her political affiliation, the publication comically wrote as Sweeney’s fake answer: ‘Honestly, I prefer to keep my desire to make America great again private.’

While Sweeney has not publicly shared her political beliefs, it was previously reported that she registered as a Republican voter in Florida ahead of the 2024 election.

Plus, back in 2022, a photo of her posing with family members wearing MAGA hats at a party went viral.

At the time, she quipped, ‘An innocent celebration … has turned into an absurd political statement, which was not the intention.’

‘What’s your stance on white supremacy?’ read another question in The Onion’s mock interview.

The outlet penned as her fake response: ‘I’m OK with it if it’s done tastefully.’

‘What’s your favorite thing about Scooter Braun?’ the publication then asked.

‘I love how he’s always pushing me to be a worse version of myself,’ it wrote as Sweeney’s fake answer.

Social media users were quick to discuss Sweeney’s fall from grace online as they shared content from the mock interview.

Taking to Reddit, one said: ‘I actually can’t remember the last time someone fell off so hard in the public eye as Sydney Sweeney recently.

‘Heading into 2025, she was considered a sex icon and a rising star with the potential to be a B-lister, if not higher.

‘Now, she’s pretty much a punchline and worked tirelessly to be the poster girl for fascist weirdos, all while denigrating herself selling her “bathwater” and dating Scooter Braun lol. Just pathetic.’

Another wrote: ‘I used to really like her! It’s such a shame. That interviewer (with GQ) gave her the opportunity to say she was against white supremacy and she couldn’t even do that.’

Amidst her recent controversies, Sweeney’s new film Christy, in which she plays Hall of Fame boxer Christy Martin, tanked at the box office after grossing a meager $1.3 million in its opening weekend.

And, adding insult to injury, fellow celebs – including Ruby Rose and Aimee Lou Wood – have taken a public stand against her.

According to reputation expert Eric Schiffer, Sweeney has enlisted clever PR techniques in a bid to cool the mounting backlash.

Speaking exclusively to the Daily Mail, he explained that she has so-far bashed away criticism by simply never apologizing – and in doing so, has scaled her relevance.

However, while Sweeney looks ‘cancellation-bulletproof right now,’ Schiffer warned that she should tread carefully.

‘She’s evading damage because she never fed the beast: no apology tour, then straight back to work,’ he said.

‘Hollywood reads heat as currency, and she proved she can take a vicious wallop and survive. Guts with composure sells; audiences prefer confidence over contrition. It would be reckless debating eugenics semantics.
