Kylian Mbappe was the first Real Madrid player to bid farewell to Xabi Alonso after the club announced during the past hours that he was ending his tenure as team coach by mutual consent, and appointing Alvaro Arbeloa, the coach of the reserve team, as technical director to succeed Alonso.

Mbappe posted a photo of himself with the Spanish coach on the Instagram platform, and wrote: “It was a short period, but it was a pleasure to play under your leadership and learn from you.”

He added: “Thank you for giving me confidence from day one. I will remember you as a coach with a clear vision and extensive knowledge of football. I wish you success in your new chapter.”

Kylian Mbappé shone under Alonso’s leadership, topping Real Madrid’s top scorers this season with 29 goals in various competitions, and sitting on the throne of top scorers in La Liga with 18 goals scored in 18 matches.

It is noteworthy that Real Madrid played 34 matches under Alonso’s leadership in various competitions, during which the team suffered six defeats, the last of which was in El Clásico against Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup.
