A Detailed Image Of The Triangle Galaxy Reveals The Birth Of New Stars

The image taken by Preacher reveals amazing details of the galaxy’s arms, which are 14,000 light-years wide, showing a dense belt of opaque dust obscuring the view of the “sea” of stars, dust and interstellar gas that makes up the body of this cosmic giant.

It is estimated that the Triangle Galaxy, which is about 3 million light-years away from Earth, is forming new stars at a rate 10 times higher than the rate of star formation in the Andromeda Galaxy, which is adjacent to our Milky Way Galaxy. The glowing galaxy’s core also lacks the prominent central bulge seen in many spiral galaxies. For this reason, some astronomers believe that M33 may not have a supermassive black hole at its center.

Ronald Brecher

Preacher collected light from this ancient galaxy using an astronomical camera attached to his Sky-Watcher Esprit 120 telescope, where he captured the scenes over separate nights between mid-August and late October of this year, as he watched the galaxy decorate the sky of the city of Guelph in Ontario, Canada. In the end, he was able to collect approximately 24 hours of observations and snapshots. Then came the digital processing stage using the astronomy program PixInsight to extract the finest details from this huge amount of data.

It is noteworthy that the “Triangle” Galaxy represents a challenge and excitement for astronomical photography enthusiasts, and is considered one of the ideal celestial bodies to test the capabilities of new astronomical equipment.
