Scientists point out that if the inner rocks contain a high percentage of organic materials similar to those found in meteorites and comets, the size of the core will be larger than expected, while the rocky ice layer will be smaller.

Researcher Anna Dunaeva, one of the authors of the study, believes that this discovery “allows to assume a relationship between the material of comets and the material of the moons of giant planets,” adding that these similarities may indicate a common reservoir of material in the outer part of the solar system.

Scientists stress that Titan’s physical and chemical conditions — from its dense atmosphere to its organic materials and potentially warm ocean beneath the ice — make it one of the most promising locations to search for extraterrestrial life.
